Call for Urgent Investigation into the Police Shooting of a Cat in Huber Heights, Ohio
This action is ONLY for residents of Ohio
In a horrific incident in Huber Heights, Ohio, an orange tabby cat was needlessly shot and killed by an officer of the local police division. Please join Alley Cat Allies in calling for an immediate and thorough investigation into the case, pursuit of charges, and the maximum possible penalty.
A police report states that Officer Akhmed Mamedov of the Huber Heights Police Division fired his service pistol twice at the cat in a restaurant parking lot on April 23, 2026. Community members who sought to help the cat claim that he survived this shooting, limped into the woods, and later died from his injuries. Also according to community members, law enforcement later collected the cat’s body and disposed of the cat in a dumpster.
If these accounts are accurate, the manner in which this cat was killed is not only cruel, leading to a slow, painful death, but is also against Ohio law.
The officer used suspected rabies to justify his actions because the cat was drooling and “foaming” at the mouth. However, it is very rare for cats to contract rabies, and multiple medical conditions can cause these symptoms in cats, including dental disease or injury.
Several animal welfare advocates have said they were willing and ready to help the cat. Organizations, including Alley Cat Allies, would also have stepped in if contacted for support. Instead, the cat was killed before anyone could provide medical care that could have saved a life.
